What is RedGIFs?
RedGIFs is a hosting and browsing platform for short adult video loops — the format everyone still calls GIFs even though they are video files now. Users upload, the platform transcodes and hosts, and the resulting links get embedded across forums, subreddits and social platforms.
Most people encounter it without ever visiting it.
Why does it matter more than a browsing site should?
Because when Gfycat shut down in 2023, a decade of embedded adult links across the internet broke at once. Threads, posts and archives that had worked for years became empty boxes, and there was no way to recover them.
RedGIFs absorbed most of that role. That makes it infrastructure rather than a destination, and it means the platform's stability is a shared dependency for a large part of the internet's adult community layer. It is worth knowing that a single company holds that position.
What did we measure?
A 288ms response on an 8KB document — one of the fastest results anywhere in this directory, on a page that is essentially a JavaScript application shell. The document declares lang="en" and a mobile viewport.
That structure has a consequence for what we can report: because the interface is assembled client-side, footer links are not in the HTML our check reads, and no compliance document surfaced. That is not evidence they are absent — the method cannot see them. Recorded as unconfirmed.
Our scan detected no advertising network in the page source.
How good is it as a browsing site?
Better than its origins suggest. Tagging is functional, the browse-by-tag view is fast, and the short-loop format is genuinely well suited to scrolling in a way full videos are not. Accounts add following and collections.
Where it is weak is depth: this is a format for excerpts, and there is no way to get from a loop to the thing it came from unless the uploader said.
What about the content itself?
Overwhelmingly user-uploaded, which means the same provenance problem as any user-upload platform: a substantial share is excerpted from commercial productions without permission, and the takedown process runs behind the uploads.
The platform does enforce a creator verification programme for accounts posting their own material, which is more structure than most GIF hosts ever had.
Should you use it?
As the place those clips live, you already are. As a browsing destination it is fast, well-tagged and free, and the format suits browsing better than a tube does. The compliance documents could not be confirmed from the served page, which is worth knowing.
