What is Fur Affinity?
Fur Affinity is an art community platform for the furry fandom, running since 2005. Artists maintain galleries, post work, open commissions and interact with followers, across visual art, writing, music and animation. Adult work sits alongside general work with a rating system separating them.
It is a creator platform first and an archive second, which is the opposite of e621.
How does it relate to e621?
Directly and awkwardly. Fur Affinity is where an enormous amount of the work is originally posted by the artists themselves; e621 is where much of it gets archived and tagged by the community afterwards.
The distinction matters for two reasons. If you want to follow an artist, support them, or commission something, this is where they are — e621 has the image, not the person. And if an artist would rather their work not be archived, e621's opt-out list, described in its own review, is the mechanism, but the work originated here.
Why go to the source?
Commissions, mainly. A very large part of this community's economy is direct artist commissions, and Fur Affinity is the marketplace for it in practice — artist pages carry availability, terms and pricing, and the relationship is direct rather than mediated by a platform taking a cut.
Following an artist here also gets you work in order, in context, with the artist's own commentary, which an archive strips out.
What did we measure?
A 745ms response on a 125KB document — quick and reasonably light. The document declares lang="en" and a mobile viewport, and the responsive layout works.
Our scan detected no advertising network and confirmed terms of service on the live site. 2257, DMCA and privacy did not surface; recorded as unconfirmed. For a platform hosting user submissions and handling commissions, we would want to see more than one.
What is the site like to use?
Dated. The interface is recognisably from the late 2000s, submission browsing is clunky, and the search is weak compared to a booru's. The community has asked for a rebuild for years and has repeatedly been promised one.
The rating system separating adult from general work functions, though the default settings catch people out.
Should you use it?
If you want to follow artists, commission work or see things in the order the creator posted them, this is the place and e621 is not a substitute. If you want to find a specific image by tag, e621 is far better and this is the wrong tool.
