What is Nomi?
Nomi is an AI companion platform: you create a character, and it holds an ongoing conversation with persistent memory, an evolving personality, and optional romantic or sexual content. It has voice, image generation and group chat alongside text.
It sits at the more capable end of a crowded category.
Why is memory the whole thing?
Because it is the difference between a chatbot and a companion product. Most competitors reset or summarise aggressively, so a conversation that felt personal in week one has forgotten it by week four, and the illusion collapses.
Nomi's retention is genuinely longer and the continuity is what users describe as the reason they stay. That is a real engineering achievement in this category.
It also means the product is, by design, accumulating a detailed and lengthening record of intimate conversation attached to your account. The feature and the exposure are the same mechanism. You cannot have one without the other, and any review that praises the first without naming the second is selling something.
What should you actually weigh?
Three things, and none of them are about how good the conversation is.
Where the data lives and how long it is kept. What happens to it if the company is acquired, breached, or shuts down — this category is young, well funded and consolidating, and none of those three outcomes is unusual.
And what you are willing to have written down. People disclose things to these systems they have told no one, precisely because it does not feel like disclosure. It is.
What did we measure?
A median 86ms response on a 362KB document — among the fastest sites in this directory. Our passes returned 443ms, 86ms and 85ms; the cold figure was inflated and the two warm passes agree exactly.
The document declares lang="en-US" and a mobile viewport. Our scan detected no advertising network and confirmed a privacy policy and terms of service on the live site. 2257 and DMCA did not surface, and neither applies — there are no real performers involved and nothing is hosted on anyone's behalf.
Two of four, and the correct two for this kind of service. For a product built on intimate data, a published privacy policy is the minimum bar, and it clears it.
How is it as a product?
Capable. The conversation quality is at the top of this category, the memory works, the personality customisation is deep, and the image generation is competent rather than exceptional. It costs money for anything sustained; the free tier is a demonstration.
The usual limits apply: it is a language model, it will contradict itself, and the personality is a configuration rather than a person. Whether that matters depends on what you want from it.
Should you use it?
If you want the most capable companion product in this category, it is among the best and it publishes the policy such a product needs. Decide what you are comfortable having permanently recorded before you start, not after, because the memory that makes it good is the memory that keeps it.
